Benue Unveils Five-Year Plan to Rebuild Food Security
The Benue State Government has endorsed and launched a five-year Strategic Food Security Plan designed to improve agricultural productivity, rebuild rural livelihoods and strengthen food production across the state.
The strategy comes against the backdrop of insecurity, displacement, land-use conflicts, climate pressures and deteriorating rural infrastructure, all of which have disrupted agricultural activity in the state.
Developed under the Enhancing Food Security and Peacebuilding in Nigeria through Strategic Planning Project, the initiative brings together government institutions, farmers, academics, traditional leaders and other stakeholders.
The plan is intended to provide a coordinated framework for improving agricultural production while also supporting peace and stability in farming communities.
Benue officials have urged ministries, departments and agencies to take ownership of the strategy and work with local governments, traditional institutions and farmers to ensure implementation.
The state’s agricultural leadership said successful implementation would be critical to restoring production and improving livelihoods in one of Nigeria’s major food-producing regions.
